102km Ayrshire Explorer Challenge Ride

The Ayrshire Explorer is a 102km circular ride on open roads from Troon, South Ayrshire with a maximum field of 50 entrants.

It is a non-competitive social ride, the vast majority of which is on quiet 'B' grade roads.

Date: Sunday 10th June 2018

Start: 9.30am

Fully signed route with route sheet hand-out.

GPX track file provided to online entrants.

Drinks and light refreshments available at the finish (included in the price).

All finishers will receive an event medal, certificate and goody bag.

Starting at sea-level, it climbs inland then rolls southwards through beautiful rural countryside, passing through farm land to the tiny village of Stair and onwards through several small villages originally established to support the now defunct mining and weaving industries.

The route turns west at Dalmellington for the climb over the high point of the route (Lambdoughty Hill) to its most southerly point in Straiton, one of the most beautiful villages in Scotland, before heading back north via more 'ex-mining' villages.

The route has over 4000ft. of ascent.

With a generous 8 hour time-limit you can decide whether it's a day to be amongst the fast folk or an opportunity to complete your own personal challenge.

Please note that this is a non-competitive ride therefore it is up to the rider to time themselves if they so wish.

A rider information pack containing the route sheet, link to an online map and additional information as to location of toilets, shops, cafes, etc. on the route, will be emailed to online entrants one week prior to the event.
